Haptoglobin phenotypes among Egyptians.

چکیده
Serum haptoglobins have been found to be useful genetic markers. The distribution of the different haptoglobin genes was found to vary in different parts of the world (Giblett, I96I). Thus Orientals and Eskimos were found to have a high incidence of the gene Hp2 and Negroes a high incidence of Hp'. Caucasians in continental Europe, Australia, and the United States have revealed an intermediate distribution of these 2 genes as have also the Australian aborigines. In studying American Indian populations both Blumberg, Allison, and Garry (1959) and Sutton, Matson, Robinson, and Koucky (I960) pointed out an increasing gene frequency of Hp' as one goes south. The present study aims primarily at describing the distribution of haptoglobin phenotypes among Egyptians, which has not been done before. Some observations on haptoglobin patterns in certain hereditary disease states are also included.

Association of Haptoglobin Phenotypes with Serum Levels of IgE and IgA in Allergic Rhinitis Patients
Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an allergic disorder of the nasal tissue that underlies diseases such as sinusitis, otits and asthma. Different predisposing factors including immunological and non-immunological factors contribute to the disease pathogenesis. Objective: To investigate association of haptoglobin (Hp) phenotypes (Hp1-1, 2-1 and 2-2) with serum immunoglobulins A and E levels ...
متن کاملDetermination of Haptoglobin Genotype in an Iranian Population with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy
Background: Haptoglobin (Hp) is a plasma α2-sialoglycoprotein that contains alpha and beta chains. It displays in three common phenotypes, Hp1-1, Hp2-1, and Hp2-2. Proteins expressed by polymorphic genes have grossly different molecular sizes resulting in different diffusion rates in the brain. Haptoglobin expressed by the Hp2-2 genotype has lower hemoglobin-binding capacity than Hp1-1 or...
متن کاملDistribution of Haptoglobin Phenotypes among Patients with Different Types of Cancer in Sudan
In this study we aimed to find possible correlation between varying cancer types and haptoglobin phenotypes Hp1-1, Hp2-1 and Hp2-2. Haptoglobin (Hp) phenotypes among patients with different types of cancer in Sudan were detected by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis followed by benzidine staining of the gels. The results indicated that individuals with Hp1-1 phenotype were significantly higher ...

متن کاملHaptoglobin phenotypes and iron status in children living in a malaria endemic area of Kenyan coast.
Malaria infection may be affected by host genetic factors as well as nutritional status. Iron status and the phenotype of haptoglobin, a heme-binding acute phase reactant may be determinants of malaria parasitemia. A combination of cross sectional studies and longitudinal follow-up were used to describe the association between iron status, C-reactive protein, malaria infections and host genetic...
